Transgenic Food

Welcome to our health blog! We are very interested in explaining to you about genetically modified food also named transgenic food.
Nowadays, we can find this food in a lot of stores, supermarkets and market stalls. The nurture industry always tells us that their products are natural chemical free and contain all the nutrients, but, is that true?

Evolution of transgenic food

According to the E.U, GMO refers to plants, animals, or any kind of food which genetic material has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally. In 1973, a group of Scientifics managed to transfer genes of bacterias to other different species.  In 1982, tobacco plants were used for herbicide resistance.

Most common GMF

Nowadays, scientists are able to isolate specific genes, they can insert those genes into organisms to produce desirable traits, and many times we don’t even know that what we are eating it´s genetically modified, because of that, we are going to show you the 10 common genetically altered foods or crops you may not have been aware of.

Illnesses

In addition, transgenic food has caused serious diseases that will reflected in long term such as cancer, allergies, diabetes and resistance to antibiotics, just to name a few. Recent studies have shown that 80% of cancerous diseases are caused by chemicals in the environment and 20% by food chemicals.

Nitrogenous fertilizers, pesticides and modified seeds are the main cause diseases in the gastric system. On the other hand, transgenic food will affect fertility in men; neurological illness, fatigue and Parkinson’s disease.

Labeling

Currently, 64 countries around the world require labeling of genetically modified foods including Mexico. Unlike most other developed countries – such as 28 nations in the European Union, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Russia and even China – the U.S. has no laws requiring labeling of genetically modified foods.

  5. Transgenic food is a threat for our health but in Mexico it is difficult because people do not know the differences of this genetically modified food.
